This Underrated State Park In Nevada May Be Your New Favorite Destination

Less than a 25-minute drive from Las Vegas is a 520-acre oasis where the temperature is 10 to 15 degrees cooler and the winters often bring snow. This underrated state park is quite popular with those who are in the know, but there are still people in the greater Las Vegas who are unaware it even exists.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is located west of Las Vegas within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area via Blue Diamond Road.

This underrated state park was once both a working ranch and a lavish retreat. It's been owned by many moguls over the years including Howard Hughes.

The spring in Spring Mountain Ranch refers to the area's springs, which originally provided water for Paiute Indians and later attracted early settlers.

Spring Mountain Ranch depicts the lives of those early settlers through role playing, demonstrations and re-enactments every spring and fall.

You can learn even more about the history of the ranch and surrounding areas year-round on a self-guided tour of the main ranch house.

Guided tours of some of the other historic ranch houses are also available to visitors.

The area includes a spacious meadow and picnic sites with tables, grills, plenty of shade and a restroom. There are plenty of hiking trails and tons of lovely scenery.

Every May through September, musical fans head to the ranch with family, friends and a picnic dinner for Super Summer Theater.

The shows are always professional quality and you couldn't ask for a better atmosphere.

Whether you're hiking, picnicking, napping or even doing yoga in the park, you are sure to have a relaxing time at this beautiful hidden gem in Nevada.

To learn more about Spring Mountain Ranch’s offerings and its schedule of events, including Yoga on the Meadow and guided hikes, visit the state park’s Facebook Page.
