The Magical Polar Express Train Ride In Nevada Everyone Should Experience At Least Once

The winter holidays are approaching and what better way to celebrate than to take a ride on a train with Santa? Children and families love the classic Chris Van Allsburg book The Polar Express, and journeying through the mountains on a classic locomotive is a fun way to celebrate together and experience a bit of Nevada’s past.

The Polar Express Train, part of the Northern Nevada Railway, runs every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The Railway is located in Ely, Nevada, in the eastern part of the state.

The Polar Express rides fill up fast and tickets should be purchased ahead of time before they sell out!

The trip runs from Ely through the special "North Pole."

Santa, of course, visits the train during its journey! He makes sure that he personally delivers to every child a special commemorative gift.

While Santa greets the children, his elves deliver hot chocolate and cookies to all the passengers.

The story of The Polar Express and music from the movie soundtrack are played on the train's sound system during the trip.

As the train returns back to Ely from its visit to the North Pole, passengers sing Christmas carols together. The ride is about 60-90 minutes total.

The trip is $42 for adults and $25 for children 4-12. It's free for children 3 and under. There are also local and military discounts.

The Polar Express is pulled along its way by a vintage diesel locomotive.

The Polar Express has been voted Best Family Adventure by Nevada Magazine, Best Event in Rural Nevada and has a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

The Polar Express begins at the Nevada Northern Railway Museum on 1100 Avenue A, Ely, Nevada. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the museum.
